Inclusivity in makeup is a big deal (well to us anyway). Thankfully more and more beauty brands, ranging from indie to high-end, are popping up with the sole intention of diversifying the industry; and it’s not just foundations they’re upping the ante with.
These days you can find a great nude, red or pink lipstick, regardless of your skin tone or budget.
In this ‘Lips we Love’ mini-series, we’ll be revealing our favourite lipsticks; from mattes to glosses.
The days of chalky colours and ill-fitting finishes aren’t quite behind us, but we can see the pigmented promised land ahead.
Here are a few of our favourite Red, Nude and Pink Matte Lipsticks, to flatter every skin tone.
NUDE
Deep: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Berlin (£6, ASOS)
This silky matte cream has a soft formula, high pigmentation, and a hydrating effect. The shade can be easily built up, and is a gorgeous neutral, for deep skin tones.
Medium: Inglot Matte Lipstick - 425 (£13, Inglot)
A “your lips but better” shade, this nude lipstick has pink tones and a lovely matte finish. It enhances your natural lip colour, while adding a subtle definition to your look.
Fair: MAC - Honey Love (£16.50, LookFantastic)
This creamy matte is perfect for paler skin tones. Balancing between light pink and sandy beige, this shade is flattering and barely there.
PINK
Deep: Black Up - N03 (£21, Debenhams)
A fiery hot pink never goes out of style. This shade is long-wearing, comfortable, and so pigmented! The colour payoff is great, and the hue is stunning against deeper skin tones.
Medium: Charlotte Tilbury - Lost Cherry (£24, CharlotteTilbury)
This shade is so cute - a pastel fuchsia is hard to come by, and this is all you need. Flattering on medium skin tones, this hue has a lot of sunny vibrancy and warmth.
Fair: Illamasqua - Corrupt (£20, Illamasqua)
A true matte formula with extremely cool undertones, this blue-tinged pink is great for lighter skin tones.
RED
Deep: Coloured Raine - Cherry Blossom (£15, BeautyBay)
This beloved shade is a show stopper, and has celebrity fans such as Rihanna. It’s a drop-dead red, highlight pigmented and literally made for deeper, warmer skin tones.
Medium: MAC - Ruby Woo (£16.50, Debenhams)
A classic go-to, this lipstick is versatile and well-known, but it truly excels on medium skin tones. With vivid pigmentation, this red is striking and sultry.
Fair: LA Splash - Retro Bettie (£9.95, BeautyBay)
A colder toned liquid lipstick, this hue is ideal for fairer skin tones to create a glam, vampy look. Inspired by pin-up glitz, this shade is eye catching and chic.
