How To Fake Expensive Looking Skin

Expensive, utterly perfect, lit-from-within looking skin, tops our list of #beautygoals.

We’ve all been told that a flawless looking face doesn’t come cheap, but with new technology, creams, serums and gels, we’re happy to report that there are a few *less pricey* ways to ensure you look your best, without going broke.

How To Fake Expensive Looking Skin

From resurfacing masks to illuminating moisturisers, a good lineup will get you there - but you've got to commit to a regime. Hey, nothing worth having comes easy. But to save on the dollar, here are a few tips and tricks that will get your skin looking like a million bucks; no matter what label you’re really wearing, or the state of the bathroom you’ve just walked out of.

  1. Wear sunscreen every day

Wearing sunscreen is one of the most important anti-ageing steps you can take. Whatever the weather, daily use of sunscreen will help keep skin clear and as smooth as possible. We recommend going for a product that is SPF30+ and for the girl on the go, Super Goop has released an SPF Setting Powder and facial spray that will allow you to top up whilst you’re out during the day.

  1. Use a Vitamin C serum

One thing that all rich-looking people have in common (aside from the glossy hair,) is super glowy skin. The easiest way to fake a post-facial glow, is with a Vitamin C serum, which will brighten skin and fade any dark spots. Glossier’s Super Glow serum is packed with Vitamin C and magnesium, which will not only help to reduce pigmentation, but speed up the cell turnover process. Simply pat a few drops of the stuff (which feels like water) directly onto your face morning and night.

  1. Double Cleanse

If you follow Caroline Hirons you’ll have heard all about the double cleanse. Arguably the most important step in your beauty routine and a method we all learned about from K-Beauty (thank you Korea we love you!)

Hirons and other pros recommend starting with a micellar water, cream or balm cleanser; (we love to keep things traditional with a lightweight oil, but a balm will also do the same job). Finish with a gel or foam cleaner to really cleanse those pores! If you’re not sure you’re ready to commit, check out Hirons’ collab with Pixi: a super easy way to test the method; and the creamy cleanser is perfect for winter.

  1. Use Oils

2015 was the year that oils broke out as beauty’s next big thing and the craze is still going strong. Frankly, they are the easiest way to provide comfort and hydration to broken out or distressed skin and can combat multiple skin concerns. Though the myth that oily skin types can’t use oils has been successfully debunked, it is worth noting that oils should be changed seasonally. What your skin craves in summer is different to what it does in winter, so opt for a lightweight oil during the warmer months and a richer oil that will provide deeper hydration once fall starts to set in. That being said, Kiehl's Midnight Recovery works for us all year round!

  1. Concealer Over Foundation

In an acne-covering makeup tutorial, makeup artist Lisa Eldridge revealed that it’s better to spot-conceal pimples with a full-coverage concealer rather than going all in with a foundation. Instead, Eldridge believes that you should “concentrate on making the most out of the 30, 50 or 70 percent of your skin which is great”, and use other techniques such as highlighter and blush to detract attention away from your problem areas. Choose a high-coverage, but non-cakey concealer like this one from Nars.
