Slapp Chat with Patrish Zea, Model

They say that God doesn’t give with both hands, but rising model and UCL Alumni Patrish Zea, disproves that theory.

This beauty is business-minded; having graduated as an award-winner and interned with Deloitte. In her modelling, she’s no stranger to the likes of Charlotte Tilbury and Louis Vuitton; and stays grounded with a zen attitude to work and life. Chic, humble, and switched-on, she’s one to watch and we adore her. We caught up with Patrish to talk career, self-care and what ‘beauty’ really means.

How did you first get into modelling?

I was scouted a number of times as a young teenager growing up in London. Every corner I turned, people kept on telling me to do modelling. The signs were everywhere so I thought, let me pursue it, and via doing that I have worked with brands and people that I wouldn't have thought I would have worked with in my wildest dreams - such as Louis Vuitton, Elle Magazine, and Vogue.

What drew you to the profession?

It was the freedom of expression and creativity. Also the variety - no two days are the same, and I love that. I have the opportunity to meet new and interesting people from all corners of the earth, and work with so many different brands which is quite special.

What has been your proudest achievement so far?

When I was balancing studying for my degree with working amazing jobs in modelling, keeping on top of my health, and winning the Third Year Departmental Prize for outstanding achievement in my final year at The Bartlett School of Planning, UCL! Whilst doing all of these things it then led to an opportunity for an internship with Deloitte.

That’s incredible! So what has your experience of diversity been in the beauty industry?

There is a lot more representation and inclusivity within the industry than before. More could be done but it definitely is on the right track. I myself have been blessed with the opportunities to work with brands such as Maybelline and Charlotte Tilbury modelling their products and working with a diverse range of models.

What is beautiful to you?

I believe that beauty lies within freedom. When someone is completely free to be themselves and express who they are, that is beautiful to me. Whether that is being in one's natural state without make-up and messy hair; or more refined, glammed up with makeup and so on. Beauty is not necessarily about the outward, it is more about the soul and truly does come from within.

How do you stay focused?

Visualisation and exercise help me to stay focused. Have the end goal in mind, remove all distractions and commit my attention to what it is that I want to achieve or what it is that I need to get done.

What is your health routine - body and mind?

My health routine includes drinking green tea daily, a lot of water and exercise. I really find that exercise always clears my mind. I love a good class so normally do yoga, pilates and spin every week.

What is signature to your look?

Sportswear/gym clothes, lol. They are just so comfortable. When the weather is warmer, you'll probably catch me in a midi dress if I have to wear normal clothes.

What is your skincare regime like?

I like trying new products when it comes to skincare, so will stick with one thing for a while, see how it works and move on. With my current skincare regime I use black soap to wash my face, then a drop of tea tree oil diluted with water to tone I guess. The black soap gives a deep cleanse but can be quite drying for me so I balance it out with a rich moisturiser, Skin Food - no surprises there, haha! My night-time regime is similar, but I add Kiehl's Midnight Recovery to the mix. This stuff literally does wonders for my skin and you can feel the difference the next morning.

If you could only Slapp on one beauty product, which would it be?

Skin Food by Weleda all day every day. It is such a rich moisturiser, gives you an instant glow and is my go-to product. Add a bit of mascara, fill in the brows then we are good to go! …Okay, that's three products, BUT the only three that I need.
