Slapp's Top 5 Summer-Proof Mascaras

Summer is here, and with it a much higher propensity towards the dreaded panda-eyes. But wearing mascara really is the best way to immediately look more flirty and cute. So what’s a gal to do? Summer proof mascaras of course. Mascaras that won’t smudge or sweat off even in the most makeup unfriendly weather imaginable. Here are 5 of our faves.

Maybelline Full ‘N’ Soft Waterproof

This is by far the best drugstore mascara we’ve used, with one large caveat: it’s basically impossible to find in the UK. Search it out on the internet, though, and you won’t be disappointed – it offers volume and length with no clumping, making your lashes look almost natural. The waterproof version is better at holding a curl and bosting definition, as well as being, you guessed it, waterproof.

Glossier Lash Slick

Not totally waterproof, this is designed to be water resistant, meaning it doesn’t smudge but can be taken off more easily. It doesn’t really offer much in terms of volume, but the length is totally incredible. It gives the fluttery vibe of lash extensions and truly does last. And the tube is a thing of beauty.

Tarte Gifted

One of the best mascaras in one of the very ugliest tubes. It doesn’t claim to be particularly long lasting, which makes it all the more surprising that it is. It doesn’t smudge or flake, and offers a more dramatic look (while still remaining unclumpy). It also removes fairly easily with warm water and a flannel.

Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof

The original Monsieur Big is undeniably beautiful, but can be problematic for those with oily lids or weepy eyes. The waterproof version mitigates these issues while still staying true to everything that’s great about the original; offering lashes which are simply, massive.

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

This is what’s called a “tubing” mascara, meaning it creates tubes of product around your lashes to add volume, length and definition. These tubes stay all day, but can be really easily removed with hot water and a gentle fiddle with your fingers – they kind of look like spider legs, which is quite terrifying. The effect is beautiful: fluttery, defined lashes that last all day.
